India’s Silent War. The uprising by Maoist fighters and its brutal suppression by the Indian government, has claimed more than 10,000 lives since 1980, and displaced 12 million people. Many of the victims are not even associated with either side. They are simply caught in the crossfire. And the violence is escalating as both sides mount offensive after counter-offensive. via the—game

Richard Dawkins: [The Magic of Reality] is a book about science. It doesn't talk about God.
Bill O'Reilly: It mocks God, I looked at it. Come on!
Richard Dawkins: Which bit have you looked at?
Bill O'Reilly: I went through that book, and you're basically saying that everything can be explained by science. Correct?
Richard Dawkins: Well, everything about the natural world can be explained by science. But where does that mock God?
Bill O'Reilly: Yeah, it basically says that these things are myths, they're not really true.
Richard Dawkins: Every chapter has myths at the beginning--
Bill O'Reilly: Ah-ha!
Richard Dawkins: Some of them are Aztec myths, there are ancient Egyptian myths, Greek myths, Judeo-Christian myths.
Bill O'Reilly: Whatever! Don't play these semantic games with me! You know what you're doing. You're trying to get to the kids and say, "You're an idiot if you believe in God."
Richard Dawkins: It's got nothing to do with God! I'm talking about myths from all over the world. The Judeo-Christian myth is thrown in occasionally, as one of many myths that come from around the world.
Bill O'Reilly: But the Judeo-Christian philosophy isn't a myth. It's reality.

During a Senate hearing today, John Kerry, the chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee, urged the top U.S. civilian and military officials in Iraq to “be careful” about “replacing a military presence with a private mercenary presence.” A report that the committee released yesterday and announced today explained why: the State Department plans to field 5,500 private security contractors to...

MIT students create T(ether) -> the 4th dimension? beachape: The video speaks for itself, so I’ll just quote Engadget. The tablet-based technology uses motion capture cameras to track users’ heads and the orientation of the device itself, building a 1:1 spatial connection between real and virtual coordinates and allowing “intuitive interaction with volumetric data.” As you’ll see in the...
