Why Americans Don’t Care About Climate Change « Gerry Canavan
The Rutgers geography department is heavily based around political ecology, which is the investigation of who has access to and control over natural resources. In virtually every class I’ve taken there, they mention over and over again that 1) there is no such thing as a natural disaster- vulnerability to hazards always reflects social and physical infrastructures 2) disasters’ effects always fall unevenly along lines of race, class, gender, and nationality. They always stress that any analysis of natural hazards (including climate change) is incomplete without incorporating those viewpoints. Maps like this are a great example of why.
